UltraSeal XT™ hydro incorporates the benefits of both hydrophilic and hydrophobic sealants into one unique chemistry. UltraSeal XT Hydro creates high bond strengths even in the presence of moisture eliminating the need for a drying agent so you can deliver the treatment even faster.
UltraSeal XT hydro is a light-cured, radiopaque, fluoride-releasing composite sealant that penetrates into the deepest pits and fissures to give exceptional protection. The hydrophilic chemistry with its characteristic thixotropic nature chases moisture (that in hydrophobic sealants can cause sealant failure) deep into the pits and fissures on a microscopic level. Once there, the advanced adhesive technology securely bonds the sealant to the enamel, increasing marginal retention and reducing microleakage.
UltraSeal XT hydro’s chemistry provides the option of a visual verification for marginal retention with the use of a UV light, upon placement and at recall visits. The UV light is sold as a separate item.
Other features and benefits include:
- Hydrophilic chemistry
- Advanced adhesive technology
- Fluorescent properties
- Thixotropic/ideal viscosity
- Highly filled resin
- BPA-free formula
- Two shades: Opaque White and Natural
- Certified gluten free
Indications for Use
Use UltraSeal XT hydro for prophylactic sealing of pits and fissures.
-
Apply etch for 15 seconds on cut enamel or 30 seconds on uncut enamel. Rinse when finished.
-
Remove visible moisture but do not completely dry the tooth.
-
Place UltraSeal XT Hydro Sealant on the tooth.
-
Using your VALO™ curing light, cure for three seconds on Xtra Power Mode or ten seconds on Standard Power mode.
-
The added fluorescent properties allow you to inspect retention at every follow-up appointment.
Before and After
Before placement of UltraSeal XT hydro
After placement of UltraSeal XT hydro
UltraSeal XT hydro’s fluorescent properties make it fully viewable under a black light, which makes it easy to check for marginal retention at subsequent appointments.

"Since I have such great success with Opalescence™ Boost and Opalescence PF I also ordered the UltraSeal XT hydro for our sealants. I was previously using [a competitor's sealant] and they would pop off within a few weeks at times and just sat on top of the tooth. While placing the UltraSeal XT hydro, you can literally see the sealant going into the pits and fissures! Day and night difference, and the use of the little light is a fun way to show the kids and parents and be able to check them at their six-month appointments!!!"

Q: Is UltraSeal XT hydro just a combination of UltraSeal XT Plus and a drying agent?
A: No, it is not. UltraSeal XT hydro is the result of combining advanced adhesive monomers with other proprietary chemistries. The adhesive monomers are what cause UltraSeal XT hydro to become a hydrophilic sealant.
Q: Do I need a bonding agent with UltraSeal XT hydro?
A: No, you do not. You just need to etch, apply UltraSeal XT hydro, then light cure. Please refer to instructions for use for complete procedure.
Q: How many teeth can I seal with one 1.2mL UltraSeal XT hydro syringe?
A: Approximately 35–40 teeth.
Q: Is UltraSeal XT hydro sealant BPA free?
A: Yes. Ultradent has always been concerned with the potential harmful effects of BPA, and as such has never used Bisphenol A in the production of UltraSeal XT plus or UltraSeal XT hydro sealants.
Q: Will the sealant cure if a VALO curing light with the Black Light lens is used to identify UltraSeal XT hydro sealant when it is placed but before actual curing?
A: Partially. Using a VALO curing light with the Black Light lens will cause the sealant to cure, but it will be incompletely cured. Therefore, we recommend using the VALO curing light with Black Light lens only for visual verification after the sealant has completely cured.
Q: How much moisture should be on the tooth
A: Though no visible moisture should be present on the tooth, some moisture may still be present deep in the pits and fissures.
Q: I’ve used UltraSeal XT plus sealant for years. Why would I want to switch to UltraSeal XT hydro sealant?
A: There’s no doubt that UltraSeal XT™ plus pit and fissure sealant is a great sealant. If you’re happy using UltraSeal XT plus sealant, then keep using it! However, if you’re interested in trying UltraSeal XT hydro sealant, you may enjoy the fact that you don’t have to apply a drying agent before placing the sealant. This saves valuable time, and it’s ideal in situations where moisture control is challenging. Also, UltraSeal XT hydro sealant’s fluorescing properties make checking its retention easy.
Q: Will UltraSeal XT hydro sealant replace UltraSeal XT plus sealant?
A: No. UltraSeal XT plus pit and fissure sealant is the industry leader and has a long history of clinical success. We do not have plans to discontinue it.
