Product Description

Taking all possible clinical situations into consideration, and all types of posts (passive metal, active threaded metal, ceramic, and fiber), the Thomas Universal Post Remover contains all the necessary components to remove posts, safely and effectively.

Using the classic Gonan post remover as a pattern, the Thomas Universal Post Remover was re-designed by Dr. Pierre Machtou (Paris, France). The principle of the Thomas Universal Post Remover is similar to a corkscrew. The post and the tooth are separated by pitting the tooth against the post and creating enough force for removal. Thomas Universal Post Remover comes in a sterilizable metal box.

TECHNIQUE:

1. All restorations are removed.

2. Use an ultrasonic tip, such as a BL5, BL6 (B&L Biotech) or the ET25, ET25L (Acteon) to disintegrate the cement and vibrate the post.

3. The post may be domed thereby reducing its circumference, use the diamond bur included in the UPR kit to taper the protruding head of the post.

4. Choose a tap and trephine according to the diameter of th post.

5. The trephine is used to bore and guage the post to the exact size of the tap.

6. Three rings are positioned on the tap, to cushion it and to spread the forces to the root surface.

7. The tap is turned onto the post counter clockwise. (In some cases, this will loosen the post sufficiently to pull it out.)

8. The extracting plier is fixed on the tap, and the jaws of the plier are expanded using the knob of the plier, separating the post form the tooth in a safe manner.
