CLINICIAN’S CHOICE® INTRODUCES NEW OCCLUSAL REDUCTION RING
For Immediate Release
November 2005, New Milford, CT – Dental practitioners now have an easier, more accurate way to ensure proper occlusal reduction during crown and bridge preparations, thanks to the new OCCLUSAL REDUCTION RING from CLINICIAN’S CHOICE. Developed to eliminate the expense and inconvenience of re-preparation and lab fabricated reduction copings, (often required when mounted models with final dies show insufficient reduction to fabricate the prosthesis) the OCCLUSAL REDUCTION RING determines if a tooth has been reduced according to the standard requirements for PFM crowns and bridges, all porcelain crowns, and veneers.
The disposable instrument features a long handle and off-set ring available in three diameters (1.0mm, 1.5mm, and 2.0mm) to reflect minimum reduction guidelines required for the most common full coverage and partial coverage restorations. The appropriate reduction ring is placed around the prepared tooth and the patient closes gently in centric relation. The ring is then pulled buccally through the occlusal space to evaluate the amount of reduction. If the ring binds between the teeth, it is easy to see where the inadequate clearance needs to be adjusted.
"The Occlusal Reduction ring is a deceptively simple device; it is, however, an excellent timesaving tool that ensures restoration predictability," says Dr. George Freedman, past president of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and associate director of the Esthetic Dentistry Education Center at the State University of New York at Buffalo. "It is one of those little tools you simply should not be practicing without."
